How is black tea prepared?

To prepare a black tea, we recommend brewing it for 3-5 minutes in hot water heated to 176-194°F.

In China, black tea is known as Hong cha, meaning "red tea", due to the tawny colour the leaves turn after brewing. Less sensitive to high temperatures than green tea, it can be prepared in simmering water and infused for around 4 minutes. Spring Darjeelings should be infused for just 3 minutes with slightly cooler water.
